五、 讲座内容简介:
The speechbegins by showing examples of translations in which translators use variousdevices to signal their disagreement with, or reservations about, the worksthey are translating. This type oftranslation is comparable to what narratology calls discordant narration, akind of story-telling in which an author fields a narrator who expounds viewsthat are obviously at variance with the author’s own opinions. The parallel leads to amore general view of translation as a form of reported speech. This implies notonly that the translated words are embedded in the translator’s reporting discourse, but that we cancast the translator as the reporter whose attitude towards the words beingreported is relevant. The speech concludes by suggesting that readers can makea translator’s attituderelevant, and that toggling between the framing and the framed discourseenables us to discern or construe the translator’s positioning.
